Ecology

Ecology is a branch of biology and is the scientific study of relationships between all living organisms and their environment. Our food and medicinal sources grow in the environment around us, and understanding ecology is crucial for our wellbeing and security.

Healthy plants = healthy ecosystems
Healthy ecosystems start with plant populations. They influence weather patterns, sequester carbon, reduce environmental damage, and provide food and shelter for insects and animals. Stable ecosystems maintain suitable habitat for plant species, including temperature and moisture. However, deforestation, fossil fuels and anthropogenic changes to the landscape are disrupting the balance in the ecosystem, contributing to a rise in health issues and crop shortage. Climate change has been devastating herbal plants, such as green tea, in which drought has caused crop shortage.
