Herbalism Today

Herbalism in the United States is considered alternative medicine, even though it's the original medicine. There is no licensing board, however, there is the American Herbalist Guild that requires a certain number of clinical hours to be considered a "Registered Herbalist." When you see someone with the RH designation after their name, it means that they have fulfilled the requirements to be a credible herbalist.

Herbalism - What it is and isn't

What is IS:

Medicine for the whole body. Can be slow and gradual. Can be subtle. Can also cause harm, which is why it's important to speak to an experienced herbalist or medical professional.

Herbalists make recommendations.

What it ISN'T:

It isn't a 1:1 substitute for modern medicine. A tincture of willow bark isn't a substitute for a painkiller.

Herbalists don't treat or cure.
